Wanted: MASTER Grower
As an employee of Chippewa Valley Growers, the most vital indicator of success is shared values. A Horticultural Master Grower is responsible for maintaining the established plant quality of the company while striving for improved methods and efficiencies and enhancing our customer’s experience. There are many associated responsibilities and requirements, some of which are outlined below.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with owners and other employees to produce the best possible quality plants.
- Self-motivated in developing and improving growing techniques. Be innovative, creative, and strive to learn better ways/methods, and continually increase our standards.
- Strong communication skills.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed. Willingness to work seven days/week through the season (February - May).
- Carry out planned production schedules.
- Maintain and repair as needed all greenhouse and related space required for planned production.
- Maintain records of growing and production techniques for future review identifying trends and forecasting space allocation needs.
- Monitor, assist, and provide guidance for transplant line and propagation.
- Willingness to assist on the transplant line as needed.
- Germination, seeding, cutting, and sticking.
- Plant care.
- Watering, fertilizing, water PH management, pest and disease identification and management, a complete understanding of IPM principles, including scouting and application of Biologicals/chemicals.
- Plant maintenance – pruning, pinching, cutting back
- Supervise all Biological and/or Pesticide applications:
- Maintain data on all Biological or Pesticide applications.
- Follow all DATCP guidelines and procedures.
- Maintain a Wisconsin Applicators Certificate.
- Promote a safe working environment for our employees and our customers
- Develop, implement, and perform weed control programs for greenhouses and surrounding areas
- Work with Owners and other employees on special projects
- Inventory management and documentation
- Assist Retail operations in any way needed
- Communicate with the entire team on any plant-related issues or related
- Maintain greenhouse facilities with regular repairs, maintenance, and cleaning. Being proactive is a must.
- Maintain shop/retail/garage facilities with regular repairs, maintenance, and cleaning.
- Work under minimal supervision sometimes and perform to the best of your abilities.
- Identify problems and communicate with the Owner or supervisor. Develop a plan to resolve the problem and be ready to implement this plan, and work through to the completion.
- Must promote Quality and Accuracy in all tasks
- Basic understanding of MS Office, Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Ability to operate POS system (cash register)
- Provide leadership by PULLING THE TEAM rather than riding the cart with a whip in your hand.

Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 70+ lbs.
- Must be able to climb onto greenhouse roofs/gutters for maintenance and repairs.
- Obtain and maintain a valid Wisconsin Applicators License.
- Possess a valid Wisconsin Driver's License.
- Ability to safely operate a skid steer or other equipment.
- Ability to safely operate a snowplow or other snow-related equipment.
