If you ever see our owner, John (who is hard to miss), around the greenhouse, you might hear him refer to himself as the “Big, Tall, Dumb Guy.” Thankfully, his size often provides him with an advantage in managing many different physical tasks as needed.
In the spirit of recognizing this unique trait, we rounded up a few iconic celebrities who have been known for their large statures.
André René Roussimoff, 7’4”
Andre the Giant was a dominant force in the sport of wrestling largely due to his massive frame and enlarged head, hands, feet, and chest. After successfully winning countless matches, his fame earned him several acting roles, including his iconic portrayal of the giant Fezzik in The Princess Bride.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, 6’1”
Starting his career off as a bodybuilder, Arnold quickly rose to fame with an unprecedented five Mr. Universe titles and six Mr. Olympia crowns. His impressive and intimidating size eventually landed him several starring roles in Hollywood action films such as Conan the Barbarian and The Terminator franchise.
David Hasselhoff, 6’4”
Toned and tall prime-time actor “The Hoff” secured television fame through his starring roles of police officer Michael Knight in Knight Rider and lifeguard leader Mitch Buchannon in Baywatch. His successful career as an screen actor and producer helped propel him towards his foray into the music and stage acting industries.

A prominent WWE wrestler, the large stature of “The Rock” helped him achieve success in the ring, winning the Heavyweight title on several occasions. He later transitioned into a successful acting career, often portraying purposefully strong characters such as football star Joe Kingman in The Game Plan, the titular hero in Hercules, and demigod Maui in Moana.
Jason Momoa, 6’4”
Beginning his career as a fashion model, Jason’s height and good looks aided in his rise to fame after earning the title of 1999 Hawaiian Model of the Year. He soon after took an interest in acting and, with his impressive action-movie physique, earned roles such as barbarian tribe leader Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones, superhero Aquaman in the DC Comics franchise, and warrior chief Baba Voss in See.
Shaquille O’Neal, 7’1”
Known as one of the most impressive NBA players of all time, Shaq’s dominant size has contributed to his success on the court with the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, and the Olympic United States’ Dream Team. Following his retirement, he pursued music and acting careers and is now a sports analyst.
While John’s stature may not have led him to a professional athletic or acting career, it has proven to be helpful during his years of maintaining operations around the garden center.
